It is no secret that Bangkok is the preferred destination for many digital nomads who have the luxury of being able to live anywhere, as long as they have an Internet connection. If you have a friend who has done just that and you would like to join them, here are a few tips and suggestions to help make the project a smooth one.

  • Employment – If you are fortunate enough not to have to worry about income, this paragraph is not for you, for everyone else, finding a job is paramount. If you are a digital nomad, then you have that covered, otherwise you might have to try your hand at teaching English, one of the few occupations a foreigner can do in Thailand. Armed with your BA (It did turn out to be very useful) and smart attire, you can start work for one of the teaching agencies at the drop of a hat! If you’ve zero teaching experience, that’s not an issue, plus they have all the resources, and going in at the deep end is often the best way to approach something new.
  • Accommodation – With very affordable long-term rentals in Ekkamai, Bangkok, you can enjoy the fabulous amenities such as communal pool, state of the art fitness gym, secure parking, maid service, round the clock security, to mention but a few of the amenities to be found at a premier condo development. A couple of months’ rent as deposit and you can move in, with most places preferring a 12-month lease, while some will accept a 6-month stay. Fully furnished, you have everything you need for comfortable living, and when you compare the cost to your home country, you’ll be very happy.
  • Getting Around – If you’re on a budget, make best use of the BST Skytrain, which has several lines that run through the city, then there are the riverboat taxis, which are a great adventure, and let’s not forget the thousands of coloured taxis. If you are in a real hurry, you could take a chance with one of the motorcycle taxi riders, who are famed for their riding skills, but it is not for the faint of heart. Of course, there are buses, both a/c and non a/c, and it is quite an experience negotiating a journey on one of these.

You will meet many like-minded expats who are here to enjoy the wonders of the city of angels, ‘Kreung Thep’, as it is known in Thai.
